Supply Staff

Evelyn

I have been working at St. Michaels as a supply worker since December 2010.

I have always enjoyed being around and playing with children. My family and friends always told me that they noticed I worked well with children and that is why I went back to school and received my Early Childhood Educator diploma.

I was looking for work at the time and a friend of mine had mentioned the centre to me. She had brought her son here when he was 4 years old, he is turning 13 soon. She really liked the staff and the centre. The staff are amazing – everyone is very helpful and we all work really well together.

I am fortunate that I am able to do what I truly love to do, which is working with children. They are our future and it is kind of nice to know that we have had an impact in their lives.

I enjoy several different activities with the children – there are so many that I can choose from. The one that stands out for me is Show-and-Tell. The children have an opportunity to talk about whatever they brought in to their classmates and answer questions. This helps them with their communication skills and taking turns showing their toys. There are so many developmental skills involved with Show-and-Tell.

Whenever people ask me I always tells them that the centre has an amazing team – we all take pride in what we do here. The staff are always there to meet the children’s and parent’s needs.

Elizabeth (Beth)

My name is Elizabeth Cruz and I’ve worked at St. Michael’s for four years. My passion to work with children began when I brought my son to the daycare centre when he was a toddler. That was when I volunteered during the summer programs. After, I decided to train as an early childhood educator at Mother Craft for Early Learning and graduated in 2004.

I did my second placement here at St. Michael’s and met all the wonderful staff, including Novea, who was my mentor and lead teacher then. With her help I learned so much. I’ve also worked as a Registered Childhood Educator full time for more than 10 years before I came back to St. Michael’s to join their team as a casual/supply staff.

I have learned many things about development in the early stages of children’s lives including their social, emotional, cognitive and motor skills. These are skills which the daycare helps to nurture through play and interaction with their friends, caregivers and teachers.

I’ve seen how dedicated the teachers and staff are in their chosen professions and how rewarding it is. Especially, at the end of the day, when children give the teachers hugs and say “thank you” and “goodbye” before heading home. I’m glad to be part of the centre and I will continue to do the best that I can.
